AMBER ALERT - COUNCILMAN HUIZAR CD14

This is Carlos Morales of THE VOICE publications (a NEW monthly newspaper)-Serving the North East Los Angeles Communities of El Sereno, Lincoln Heights, Boyle Heights. I am informing the community that first of all I know Alvin Parra, Juan Jimenez and Jose Huizar! I have worked with each of them over the last couple of years! I have had contact with Jose Huizar over the past 13 or 14 months - He is my present Councilman.
The reason for my message is to inform the community of our efforts to produce a CANDIDIDATE FORUM for the CD-14. Both JIMENEZ AND PARRA HAVE CONFIRMED THEIR PARTICIPATION. HUIZARS campaign has not! I want to share with the community of the efforts we have made to insure everyone’s participation. (Henry Casas is Jose Huizar's Campaign Manager)

Hello Henry,
Carlos Morales, Publisher and editor of THE VOICE newspaper. Thank you for taking time to talk to me........... I am contacting you for three reasons:

1. We need a bio from Jose Huizar to publish on our paper. (We are contacting all candidates)

2. We are getting ready to publish the January Issue of THE VOICE and want to know if you want to advertise on our publication, rates are attached for your review. Deadline for January submission is Tuesday, December 26, 2006

3. THE VOICE Newspaper is planning a Candidates forum on Tuesday, February 20th, 2006 (Please schedule this on your calendar it will also be published for two months in the Newspaper as well.) We are the lead organization putting this event on along with various community organizations in El Sereno. Thank you very much on your comments in making this forum fair to all candidates. We will contact you in the near future as to the rules of engagement and particulars on how this forum will run. We welcome any recommendations. Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward in meeting you soon. Details will follow

Hello Henry,
I found the original email I sent to you in December........... Please review our rates. We are extending your deadline to submit your artwork until Tuesday January 23, 2007, to make the February issue of THE VOICE.

We do want to work with you to inform this community on important issues that impact these constituents. I have now mentioned this to both you (in December) and Jose Huizar (last week at the NC-32 Neighborhood Council Meeting)
We are providing an equal opportunity to outreach to this community to all candidates!

(By the way - Not one candidate bothered to submit their bio to us as of today @2pm)
We are not paid by any campaign to do this research - We do not want to miss-inform the community if websites or other materials that come by our desk are not kept up or revised! In being fair to all, we will publish only the bios that we receive via email!

BIG REMINDER- Please confirm JOSE HUIZARS participation in our CANDIDATES FORUM - we have scheduled for TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 20TH AT 6PM - 9PM!

On Wednesday February 7th, 2007Joe Rivera and I attended The El Sereno Neighborhood Council. We were shocked to hear Mr. Frank Torres (Field staffer of Mr. Huizar’s El Sereno Office) ask that the El Sereno Neighborhood Council vote and accept a party given by Jose Huizar to thank the outgoing Neighborhood Council Board Members and to meet the Newly elected Board Members. (We agree that this is a fine gesture) HOWEVER he is throwing this party on the same day of the CANDIDATES FORUM being held at the same time! I don’t understand or maybe I do understand that he is avoiding any public questions that will be asked. - ALL THREE CANDIDATES WILL RECIEVE THE SAME QUESTIONS!

The neighborhood Council was alerted by Joe Rivera to the fact that the request just made by the Councilman Huizar Office was on the same day we have been advertising the Candidates Forum for two months in the paper! The Neighborhood Council voted to agree to have a party - BUT NOT ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2007 -ANY DATE BEFORE OR AFTER THAT DATE SO THAT THE COMMUNITY GETS A CHANCE TO ATTEND THE FORUM!

The following day Joe Rivera and myself attended a MEET AND GREET in EAGLE ROCK last week and approached both Henry Casas and Jose Huizar to ask them about the tactics they are using to pin the constituents of the same community against each other! They refused to admit of these tactics.

Then we get this email:

HE RATHER THROW A PARTY THAN MEET THE CONSTITUENTS THAT WANT TO HERE ALL THREE CANDIDATES!

Upon further investigating we found out that Councilman Huizar did not attend or confirm his participation these other events as well

Highland Park - Hosted by the Highland Park Kiwanis Club

Boyle Heights - Hosted by the Community Leadership Coalition

El Sereno Middle School - Hosted by Social Studies (February 27, 2007)
Mr. Casas informed me that they were trying to avoid any confrontations and were only attending meet and greet type of events. He told me of an unfortunate time in Eagle Rock where he stated that the Councilman was AMBUSHED at a meeting and are very careful of where he goes and who he talks to. Being both a Constituent and working in his district I feel the community has the right to see all candidates that are seeking their vote! Any questions please call us at 323.221.7400
